Monkey King

TBT- This was a piece i did in college in the spring of 2009. The project was to create a ukiyo-e print using found textures either scanned or photographed. We also had to create a personal message representing ourselves, as the professor teaching this class was as much a philosopher as he was a artist, wanted to explore this subject. I have always been interested in monkeys, and decided to use a piece by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi of the Monkey King, as well as other famous images found in ukiyo-e. Because the images that I wanted to use were from various sources and at such bad quality, I decided to do all the line work by hand. My Method was printing the source image, trace the lines using various sakura micron pens, and then scanning the line back into the computer. The clouds and cliff side I drew from scratch. From there i scanned various textures, mostly from Tshirts and art paper. Using Photoshop, I manipulate the colors and textures creating the final product you see.
